A Bench Built for Capacitors
Applying a capacitor correctly is as important as choosing the right part, and because the performance depends on the ripple, the temperature and the layout, the integration decides how long the design lasts and how clean the rail is. To support customers more effectively, BeiLuo has opened an FAE verification bench dedicated to CapXon aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The bench lets our engineers measure ripple heating, capacitance, ESR and lifetime before a customer commits to a design, turning advice into evidence.
The bench complements the stock program announced in July. Where the stocking program answers the question of whether a part is available, the new bench answers the question of whether the part will perform in a specific application. Together they let BeiLuo support a design from selection through validation, rather than only at the point of sale.
What We Measure
The bench is equipped with precision LCR meters, a thermal chamber, electronic loads, a high-bandwidth oscilloscope and a current probe. Engineers measure the capacitance and the ESR at the frequency of interest, record the case temperature at worst-case load and ambient, and capture the ripple current that flows through the capacitor. For a snap-in part in a DC link they verify the ripple sharing across a bank; for a radial part on a control rail they verify the filtering and the temperature rise.
Capacitance and ESR
Capacitance and ESR are measured at the frequency that matters for the application, because the ESR at the switching frequency decides the ripple heating and the impedance at that frequency. The bench shows whether a part meets its tolerance and whether a low-ESR choice lowers the temperature rise, which is the practical benefit a datasheet cannot always convey.
Ripple and Case Temperature
A current probe measures the actual ripple current, and a thermocouple records the case temperature at worst-case load and ambient. Because the life of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor roughly doubles for every 10 °C reduction in core temperature, the case temperature measurement is the key input to the lifetime estimate. The bench lets us project the life and show how a small layout change, such as better airflow or a bigger can, extends it.
From Selection to Validation
When a customer asks which capacitor suits their design, our FAE team can now validate the recommendation on the bench. We measure the capacitance and the ESR, record the ripple and the case temperature, project the lifetime from the endurance and the temperature rule, and confirm the ripple margin. The result is a design path backed by measured data, which reduces the risk of late-stage surprises and shortens the path to a reliable design.
Lifetime Projection
The bench measures the case temperature at worst-case load and ambient and lets us project the life from the datasheet endurance and the temperature rule, and it shows how a cooler layout or a long-life series changes the outcome. That turns a capacitor choice into a verified decision that supports a long warranty.
Supporting a Design End to End
The bench is a support tool, not a test house, and it is strongest when used early. A typical engagement starts with a selection question, moves to a bench check of the chosen capacitor under the customer's load profile, and ends with a validated recommendation for the part and the layout. Because BeiLuo holds the capacitors in regional stock, the validated part can then move quickly to a sample and a production order.
How to Use the Bench
Customers can request a bench evaluation by sending their rail voltage, ripple, ambient and life target to the BeiLuo team. Our engineers will set up the test, measure the key parameters and share the results with a design recommendation. Because the bench and the stock program work together, a customer can validate a capacitor on the bench and then hold production stock within the same week, which shortens the distance between a design decision and a shipping product. The bench is one more reason to treat BeiLuo as a technical partner for CapXon capacitors rather than a simple parts supplier.
Results are shared as a short report with the measured capacitance, ESR, ripple and case temperature, so the design team can keep the evidence with the design file and compare a later revision against it.
